Entertainment One-Produced INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 Breaks Records; Opens #1 in Canada and UK


#1 film in the US with North American weekend box office earning US$41.05 million

Toronto/London – September 16, 2013 - Entertainment One (eOne) is delighted to announce the incredible international box office success of Insidious: Chapter 2. Released on Friday, September 13, the film has already generated CAD $2.08 million in Canada and £2.88 million in the UK, making it the biggest Friday opening for a horror film in UK history. In a joint announcement earlier today, it was confirmed that the third installment of the Insidious franchise is already in development.

Starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, and Barbara Hershey, Insidious: Chapter 2, the terrifying sequel to the breakout hit film Insidious which captivated horror movie fans worldwide, follows the haunted Lambert family as they seek to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

Written by Leigh Whannell and directed by James Wan, the extraordinary duo behind the first installment, the eOne-produced franchise also brought the talented filmmakers behind Insidious back together for this epic second chapter. Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum and Oren Peli served as producers.

eOne directly distributes the Insidious series in Canada, the UK and will release the film in Spain later this year. In the UK, Insidious: Chapter 2 Film debuted at #1 and had a bigger opening than recent hits like The Conjuring, The Purge, Mama and Insidious. The film is currently playing on 558 screens at 414 locations across the UK. Similarly, the film had an impressive opening weekend on 288 screens at 270 locations in Canada.

Insidious: Chapter 2, which opened to $40.27 million in domestic box office sales and as the #1 film in the US this weekend, is distributed by FilmDistrict in the US.
