Disney’s Maleficent is expected to cross $600M at the global box office today in its fifth week of release. This is the second Walt Disney Studios release of 2014 to surpass this threshold and the studio’s 20th release ever to do so.

Released in the US/Canada on May 30, Maleficent opened at #1 with $69.4M and has seen strong week-to-week holds, remaining in the top five since opening and tallying $205M through July 1. It is the fourth highest grossing film of the year and Angelina Jolie’s highest grossing live action film of all time domestically, internationally and globally. Worldwide it is the highest grossing original film of 2014. The film has been performing extremely well in Latin America, with its largest foreign market being Mexico at $43.2M, as well as in China where it opened June 20 and has taken in nearly $40M. Maleficent is expected to surpass $400M internationally just ahead of its July 5 debut in Japan, its final international market.
