"Panda" Leads Weekend Sales on Fandango, While "Deadpool" Suits Up for V-Day

“KUNG FU PANDA 3” STILL HOLDS THE POWER AT THE TOP OF

FANDANGO’S FANTICIPATION MOVIE BUZZ INDEX

LOS ANGELES – February 4, 2016 – ”Kung Fu Panda 3” commands a second round at the top of Fandango’s Fanticipation movie buzz indicator with a sturdy 77 out of 100 points, overpowering the other films currently playing and opening wide in theaters this weekend.

“Building off its strong opening and positive critical response,” says Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger, “’Kung Fu Panda 3’ still reigns supreme atop the Fanticipation chart for a second straight week. Meanwhile, superhero fans are eagerly awaiting next week's debut of the first R-rated Marvel movie, ‘Deadpool.”

To celebrate next week’s release of “Deadpool” and the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, Fandango is hosting fan-made “Deadpool”-themed movie valentines.  Ryan Reynolds’ highly-anticipated movie is currently the top overall ticket-seller on Fandango for the week, even though it doesn’t open until February 12.  “Deadpool” is also outpacing last year’s superhero starring debut, “Ant-Man,” at the same point in the Fandango sales cycle.

About Fanticipation

Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango’s movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango’s advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement.  Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment. Fandango is the nation’s leading digital destination for moviegoers and fans with more than 42 million unique visitors per month.*
