"Captain America: Civil War" opened this weekend in North America to an estimated $181.8M, the 5th highest domestic opening in industry history.  Marvel Studios now has 4 of the top 6 openings of all time. 

 

An estimated international weekend of $220M results in an overall global weekend just above $400M and a global cume of $678M to date for the #5 global release and #3 Western international release of 2016 in just 12 days.

 

Also this weekend, The Walt Disney Studios surpassed $1Bn Domestic ($1.121Bn to date) in just 128 days -  shattering the previous record set last year of 165 days - as well as $2Bn International ($2.220Bn to date) and $3Bn Global ($3.341Bn to date), surpassing the previous industry records set last year in June.

Captain America: Civil War delivered a fantastic global weekend of $31.3M, a new IMAX record for a day-and-date opening of a Marvel title (surpassing Iron Man 3’s $28.7M).  After two weekends, the global total is $45M.  Domestically, Captain America: Civil War flew into North America with an IMAX weekend gross of $16M on 380 screens, or a great $42K per screen average.  The weekend is a second-best for a Disney/Marvel release, after Avengers: Age of Ultron’ $18.2M. 

 

In China, Captain America: Civil War opened with a record-level weekend of $10M on 283 IMAX screens, delivering a 3-day opening that puts it in a dead-heat race for best-ever with Transformers: Age of Extinction.

·        Estimated $181.8M three-day is the fifth largest domestic opening weekend in industry history.

International

 

Captain America: Civil War posted an estimated $220.0M in its second weekend of overseas release from 55 material territories representing 100% of the international marketplace.

 

Overall

 

The Domestic cume to date ($182M) has already surpassed the lifetime cumes of Captain America ($177M), Ant-Man ($180M) and Thor ($181M).

 

The International cume to date ($497M) has already surpassed the lifetime cumes of Captain America ($194M), Iron Man ($267M), Thor ($268M), Iron Man 2 ($312M), Ant-Man ($339M), Thor: The Dark World ($438M), Guardians of the Galaxy ($440M) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($455M).
